Luna Moth, an educational enterprise inspired by Waldorf education, would like to invite your children to a Mabon adventure! Expect lots of imaginative activities and immersive experiences brought by Marta through Creative Arts.
Ancient festivals offer a fantastic educational opportunity to explore the cultures from which we originated. Through the myths, art, and history of the Celts of the British Isles, we can learn to experience nature deeply again, treating it with reverence.
The Autumn Equinox, known as Mabon in Celtic tradition, is a time of balance. This day marks the moment when day and night are of equal length, symbolizing harmony and equilibrium between light and dark. Because good balance of the body brings about balance of the mind, imaginative balancing activities will intertwine storytelling and art. Myths about Mabon – present in Arthurian legends – depict characters of spirit animals which we will follow embarking on our three-hour journey. The Celts attributed characteristics and qualities to animals, and their spirit was held in great esteem; we will speak to a Stag, an Owl, a Salmon and an Eagle, and hopefully get inspired to do some arts and crafts derived from original Celtic art which we will recreate using Steiner-Waldorf educational methods like form drawing, or vail painting. A handful of environmental education will be smuggled in!
In preparation for the longer nights ahead, we will embrace darkness through blindfold games, which not only enhance sensory and spatial awareness but also emphasize trust and communication. These
activities will help us experience the deep connections embodied by the Mabon festival, celebrating the spirit of unity that this time of year represents. Together, we will also create land art, make jam, and
share food by the bonfire!

This event is part of Salisbury Centre Autumn Equinox Seasonal Celebration. As such, we will merge with another event from 4pm onwards around the fire in the Garden for the Closing Ceremony. Do stay on if you can! There will be chanting, poetry sharing, and intention setting.
Participation in our community-led events is on a voluntary ‘by donation’ basis. This means that nobody is expected to make a payment if they cannot afford to do so.
Any donations received will be shared between the Centre and the facilitator, helping to make the events’ programme sustainable as well as to provide some reciprocity towards community facilitators’ time and skills offered.
Where a “suggested donation” is listed, this is just an indication of what the event might cost if it was ticketed.
This is an invitation to practice ‘Dana’ (generosity) – please pay only what you can afford to attend.
