Community Therapies

We first piloted Community Therapies in March 2023 and found there was a need for accessible therapies in Edinburgh. While there is a big offer of treatments in the city, most of them aren’t very affordable.

The aim of Community Therapies is to make therapy accessible for all by offering treatment on donation basis. The programme relies on clients’ honesty in terms of their finances. This way, those who can afford to pay more can sponsor the subsidised spots.

Community Therapy slots are available at the Centre on the last Thursday and Friday of the month.

For more info & bookings click here

If you work for a service that signposts people and you want to book your clients in/establish a relationship, please email [email protected] for next steps.

If you want to start offering treatment as a Community Therapist, email [email protected]

Our donations system explained

You can book each session by donation of your choice. We set the minimum donation as £10 to minimise the number of no-shows. Please see below for a more detailed guide to suggested amounts, based on your circumstances.

Keep in mind that your donations support the Centre and our Therapists directly.

You can cancel and get a full refund up to 48 hours before the treatment. Doing that ensures that your spot can still be taken by somebody else.

We trust you to pick the price because we believe you can assess your financial situation much more accurately than we ever could.

If you or someone you’re signposting requires a free spot, please email the therapist directly. You can find their email on the Eventbrite page for their treatment.

What to expect

Most sessions within the Community Therapies programme last between 30-50 minutes. Please refer to the booking page for details.

Please arrive 5 minutes before your treatment, to ensure you can settle in and start on time. Keep in mind the therapists may be treating other clients before and after you.

Treatments are on the ground floor which is wheelchair accessible. Click here for more specific information about the Centre’s accessibility.

Massage treatments can sometimes be in the same room with screens.

Anne Marie Parham

Anne-Marie

Hypnotherapy

Hello, my name is Anne-Marie and I am a GHR registered clinical hypnotherapist. I have a passion for hypnotherapy and enjoy helping people to find solutions.

What is hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy happens when you enter a state of hypnosis, a natural state of relaxed and focused awareness, and we work together to use this state to help you to achieve your goals.

How can hypnotherapy help you?

Using hypnotherapy, I help my clients to bring positive change into their lives by using the power of their subconscious mind. Working at this level, it is possible to achieve sustainable and significant change, even where this has proved to be difficult to achieve before whilst working at a conscious level.

I can help you with anxiety, confidence, insomnia, menopause, pain management, phobias, Parkinson’s, smoking cessation and more.

What can you expect?

During this introductory session, you will have the opportunity to experience a hypnotherapy relaxation session. If you wish, we can also consider any questions that you may have about hypnotherapy and how it could help you to move forward in your life.

Where can I find out more?

You can learn more about my approach through my website.

Guided Mindfulness Meditation & Indian Head Massage with Clunie

Clunie

Guided Mindfulness Meditation & Indian Head Massage

Hello, my name is Clunie, and I am offering relaxing and restorative sessions of guided mindfulness meditation and Indian head & shoulder massage.

This combination of massage to release tension in the head and shoulders followed by a guided meditation, means that a unique treatment can be created to address whatever you bring to the session.

Alternatively, you may choose to spend your entire appointment with either massage or mindfulness meditation on their own.

Whichever therapy feels best suited to your session, the treatment will be seated, and you will be fully clothed.

I will hold a compassionate and gentle space to allow time for you to truly rest in the present moment, celebrating the power and wonder of your body and its ability to heal.

These treatments are very helpful for conditions of anxiety, low mood, stress, muscle tension, low immune system, headaches, eye strain, lymphatic toxicity and/or low energy. Combined with mindfulness meditation, they can give a renewed sense of self-worth and direction.

Appointments are 30 or 60 minutes.

I have trained in Shiatsu, Indian head massage, bodywork and Mindfulness teaching. My extensive mindfulness teacher training with the Mindfulness Association is trauma informed.

I lead regular mindfulness courses and workshops for groups of both adults and children, and here at the Salisbury Centre I am specifically offering one-to-one appointments.

Fully insured and BAMBA registered, with 25+ years of experience, I bring calm support and joy to these sessions.

Douglas - Seated Chair Massage

Douglas

Seated Chair Massage

Meet Douglas. Douglas’ journey as a masseur began while travelling and living in Thailand where he learnt Thai and Ayurvedic massage, first in a secular Buddhist healing centre and then in Australia, covering both Eastern and Western approaches. His journey continued in Edinburgh where he completed a Diploma in Holistic Massage Therapy with the Massage Training Institute, which included Swedish and deep tissue massage. He now specialises in Myofascial Release and is beginning Sports and Remedial Massage training in November 2023.

Douglas offers massage; Swedish, Holistic, Myofascial release, Hot Stones. Check Eventbrite listing for details.

From the initial consultation Douglas will work with you toward your specific aims, whether stress management or the relief of pain. Swedish massage is excellent for relaxation and as a warmup for deep tissue work on chronically tight or sore muscles. Douglas believes that massage is an essential element of self-care. In his own words, “sharing relaxed and body centred presence is one of life’s greatest gifts.” In his spare time he enjoys nature while hiking, cycling or surfing. His supportive, complementary practices are regular yoga, qi gong, and ongoing training in Non-Violent Communication.

Ed Giles

Hello I’m Ed, an accredited coach and mind-body practitioner who is passionate about helping people find their own solution to chronic pain.

I use a mind-body approach focused around TMS (The Mindbody Syndrome) which explores the psychological roots of chronic pain and how training the mind can lead to chronic pain recovery. This was the approach that worked for me after 6 years of chronic pain and there is growing evidence of its effectiveness within the scientific and medical communities. I would like to make it clear that the pain you experience is 100% real regardless of what is causing it.

My practice offers a warm, non-judgemental space to explore the ideas and practices of TMS and how these could relate to your experience. Prior to the session, you will be asked to fill out a short questionnaire about your experiences with chronic pain.

You don’t need experience or knowledge of TMS to benefit from this stand alone 50-minute chronic pain coaching session. Our initial session specifically is designed to help you learn:

1) Whether you and your chronic symptoms are a good fit for mindbody treatment designed for chronic pain recovery

2) One simple mind-body tool that you can apply to start feeling calm and relaxed, rather than tense and anxious, about what your body might do next.

If you decide my programme is right for you, follow-up sessions will be tailored to your wants, needs, and experiences.

Chronic pain recovery is a gradual process, however these sessions offer a valuable space to begin learning about and experiencing a method that has worked well for myself and many others with chronic pain.

Shamanic and energy healing – with Eugenia

Eugenia

Shamanic and Energy Healing

Eugenia Rosa is a skilled Shamanic, Healing and Creative Arts Practitioner, offering transformative sessions for those seeking emotional, spiritual, and energetic support. With a deep understanding of the cycles of life, death, and rebirth, Eugenia’s journey through grief, loss, and spiritual awakening has shaped her ability to guide others through their healing and transformation. Her practice blends ancient shamanic wisdom with modern therapeutic techniques, creating a powerful, inclusive space for personal growth and deep healing.

What to expect in a session

A session with Eugenia offers a gentle yet powerful path to restoring balance, vitality, and emotional well-being. Whether you’re seeking healing, clarity, or personal growth, her sessions use shamanic journeying, energy cleansing, and connection with spiritual allies—such as animal guides and ancestors—to facilitate deep healing.

No prior experience with shamanism is needed; Eugenia’s compassionate approach makes it accessible to all. She creates a safe space, guiding you into a relaxed state where insights emerge, emotional blockages are released, and peace is restored. Many clients feel lighter, more centered, and empowered, with transformative effects continuing to unfold.

The benefits of shamanic and energy healing

Clients report experiencing bodymind support for relief:

  • Stress, fatigue and overwhelm: Receive respite from the stress, fatigue, and overwhelm of modern life, helping to restore balance, rejuvenate the spirit, and cultivate a deep sense of peace, enabling you to navigate daily challenges with renewed energy and clarity
  • Spiritual growth and exploration: Experience a deeper connection with your spiritual self, and explore the infinite wisdom and capacity of the unseen realms by connecting with profound insights and personal transformation.
  • Previous and active trauma: Through techniques like soul retrieval, you can invite the reintegration of fragmented parts of yourself and restore psycho-spiritual and emotional wholeness.
  • Chronic illness or physical dis-ease: Explore a complementary approach to energetic imbalances to further enhance and support the body’s natural healing capacity.
  • Mystery ailments: Address inherited personal, collective and ancestral trauma’s impact on present health.  Traditional therapeutic and medical interventions often struggle to address long-standing and undefinable dis-ease in the bodymind.

Through Eugenia’s own journey, and her experience supporting clients, she’s observed these symptoms as frequently connected to ancestral, intergenerational, and past life “echoes,” resulting in tangible but difficult-to-explain physical or emotional challenges. Modern science, particularly through the study of epigenetics, has begun to recognize how trauma and experiences from previous generations can influence our health today.  Shamanic practices, which focus on healing these deep-rooted imprints, are gaining attention for their ability to address these “phantom” ailments. By working with ancestral energies and spiritual insights, shamanic healing complements our understanding of epigenetics, offering a powerful approach to resolving long-standing, unexplained health issues and promoting holistic well-being.

Eugenia’s sessions are designed to complement other therapeutic and medical treatments and have no contraindications.

FAQ

What will happen during my appointment?

We’ll begin by having a quick chat about what you’d like from your treatment today. If it’s your first appointment, you’ll also need to fill in a quick form.

Once we’re finished, I will leave the room for a few minutes so that you can get undressed and hop onto the couch under the towel. I’ll come back in and we’ll begin the treatment. You will always be under the towels, except for the area I’m working on.

Depending on the treatment, we might do some muscle stretches. If we do, I’ll let you know what you need to do. Otherwise, you can just lie back and relax. After the treatment I’ll leave the room again so you can get dressed. I’ll ask how the treatment was for you, and if needed I can recommend you some stretches to do at home. Then, it’s goodbye until next time!

What will I wear?

You can wear as much or as little as you are comfortable with, but most people undress down to their underwear for massage. You will always be draped with towels apart from the place where I am working, to ensure you feel comfortable, warm and safe. If you would like to keep more clothes on, just let me know and I can adapt the treatment. I will need to ask you to remove large pieces of jewellery during the treatment.

How will I feel afterwards?

You are likely to feel quite sleepy, especially if we’ve decided to go for a relaxing treatment! If you have things to do after the appointment, we can add in some energising strokes towards the end of the treatment to help wake you up. To help your body to recover and flush out any remaining toxins, it’s a good idea to stay well hydrated and avoid alcohol and smoking for 24 hours after your massage.

Lydia

Holistic Massage

Hi, my name is Lydia. I completed a diploma in Holistic Massage last year, and I have since completed training in Reiki and Indian Head Massage. I am very excited to offer Indian Head Massage as a Community Therapist at the Salisbury Centre.

My aim is to create a little sanctuary away from our busy lives, and hold space to rest, reflect, and to recharge. I hope to help clients feel enriched and nourished, and ready to face the world again, a little calmer and with a renewed sense of inner peace.

Indian Head Massage includes massage to the neck, shoulders, upper arms, upper back, face, and scalp. The client remains dressed and comfortably seated.  This wonderful, traditional treatment eases tension, tackles knots, soothes stress, and promotes a sense of calm and tranquillity.

If my offerings resonate with you, I look forward to seeing you and supporting your healing journey.

Integrative Transactional Analysis

Hi, i’m Mike, I work as a psychotherapist and I help people to better understand themselves and be more of who they are. I provide an opden and understanding environment to talk about and make sense of problems.

I work from an Integrative Transactional Analysis approach, which is a framework used to look at a person’s thoughts, feelings and behaviours, where these might have developed from and give the possibility of having more freedom over them moving forward. I look to encourage meaning over giving answers and providing solutions.

I’m interested in connecting the mind and body and ways of being with this through psychotherapy.

I’m offering a psychotherapy taster session for you to experience what therapy might be like and an opportunity to be seen and heard. Often therapy is a longer term endeavour however I believe one session could be a valuable learning experience.
