Living Lighter

We are committed to working towards ecological sustainability, in the belief that personal development goes hand in hand with awareness of the needs of the planet.

You can view our Environmental Policy here.

In 2023 we worked with The Surefoot Effect to create our Net Zero Action Plan.

Following Living Lighter Project funding from the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund (April 2019 to March 2021) and funding from the People’s Postcode Trust for work around Ecological Wellbeing, Nature Connection, and transition to Net Zero (2021-2023), our commitment to climate action and sustainability continues so watch this space for future plans and activities!

Here are some of the things we have accomplished so far:

  • Held two annual Interfaith Climate Gatherings to bring organisations and members of the community together to determine a collective climate action area
  • Held climate conversations and other carbon saving workshops and film-showings
  • Increased our food growing garden space and held gardening workshops and events, and used our kitchen to share meals and demonstrate cooking, preserving and food waste reduction
  • Held upcycling events including textile and furniture repair
  • Installed all new energy efficient sash and case windows and other energy saving measures
  • Established a team of Climate Champion volunteers and Ecological Steering Group for the Centre.
  • Held a series of ecological wellbeing and nature connection events.
  • Developed our Net Zero Action Plan.
