The Salisbury Centre is a place used by many: facilitators, workshop participants, staff members, volunteers, therapists and their clients, and many more. Because of the diversity of reasons why people come here, there is also diversity of expectations and unspoken norms.
Over the years, it has become clear that it is beneficial to have a set of explicit agreements about how we all use this space. This allows for a harmonious coexistence of different groups of people, coming to the Centre for different reasons.
For a full version of this, please refer to our Code of Conduct and Terms & Conditions.
Meanwhile, we outline some of the basic space use agreements. This is meant to be a friendly way to get us all on the same page about how we are together and respect each other at the Centre.
- The Centre’s opening hours are 8 am – 10 pm. If your event runs until 10pm, please make sure to leave the building as promptly as you can.
- Most of the staff team work part-time hours and aren’t always on site during the Centre opening times. Please make sure you know everything you need to know a few days before your event and reach out to your contact person if you need more information.
- The community kitchen is available to all Centre users. Please be mindful of other people’s space, food items, and your time spent in the kitchen. If you leave any food in the fridge, please make sure to put it in a container and label either with your name or as a “help yourself” item.
- Please clean after yourself and put dishes in the dishwasher. Only wash things by hand if the dishwasher is on, full, or what you need to wash isn’t dishwasher safe.
- Help yourself to tea and coffee and consider leaving 50p – £2 donation to pay towards the costs.
- The Centre doesn’t currently operate on a drop-in basis. Visitors come for specific events and the facilitators are responsible for making sure all their participants leave the building.
- Each room has its default setting captured on a photograph on the wall. Please make sure this is how you leave the room after your event.
- The Salisbury Centre is a no-substance premises. This means no alcohol and drugs permitted, as well as no smoking or vaping – including in the garden.
- There is a Residents community at the Centre. Please make sure you respect the private residents space (which is marked by signage), keeping in mind that The Salisbury Centre is their home.
- Treat the Centre with the kind of respect that you would give to a home shared by many different individuals. Be mindful of sounds travelling. Don’t assume people have the same norms around touch and hugs as you do. Keep the place clean. And above all…
…as the Dalai Lama said, “Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible.”
